A business principle that measures corporate performance along three lines: profits, planet (environmental sustainability) and people (social responsibility), instead of limiting its vision to the traditional bottom line—the black ink at the bottom of the ledger

Please join me in congratulating and thanking the Eugene Public Library Foundation on its 25 years of support for the Eugene Public Library and the triple bottom line.
Although we were impressed with the quality of this year's nominations, we hope the best is yet to come as architects and builders embrace the triple bottom line of economic, social and environmental sustainability--beyond the call of green.
This was further popularised by Elkington (1997) as the triple bottom line concept 'that corporate and organisational success should include environmental and social performance, as well as economic'.
