toluene /tol·u·ene/ (tol´u-ēn) the hydrocarbon C7H8; it is an organic solvent that can cause poisoning by ingestion or by inhalation of its vapors.

It is used in dyes, explosives, gums, and lacquers and in the manufacture of drugs and the extraction of organic chemicals from plants. toluene [tol´u-ēn] the hydrocarbon C7H8, an aromatic solvent similar to xylene; it is found in many paints and removers and is considered to be a neurotoxin.
toluene the hydrocarbon C7H8 used as an anthelmintic against roundworms and hookworms in dogs. Vomiting occurs in some animals at even therapeutic dose rates.
