tolazoline hydrochloride [tolaz′əlēn] an alpha-adrenergic receptor blocker. indications It is prescribed in the treatment of persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn and in peripheral vascular disease. contraindication Hypersensitivity to this drug prohibits its use. adverse effects Among the more serious adverse effects are cardiac arrhythmia, hypotension or hypertension, exacerbation of stress ulcer, hemorrhage, and mitral stenosis.
