tinzaparin /tin·zap·a·rin/ (tin-zap´ah-rin) a low-molecular-weight heparin of porcine origin, having antithrombotic activity and used with warfarin in the treatment of deep venous thrombosis with or without pulmonary embolism.

[tin-zap′ah-rin]
a low-molecular-weight heparin obtained by depolymerization of heparin from porcine intestinal mucosa by using a bacterial enzyme. It acts as an anticoagulant and antithrombotic and is used as an adjunct to warfarin in the treatment of deep venous thrombosis with or without pulmonary embolism and is administered subcutaneously.

Blumgart that a resident ordered Tinzaparin Sodium, 4,500 units by injection subcutaneously daily, but it was discontinued by another on November 30, 2005, because of concern about employing anticoagulants in patients at that stage with a hepatic resection.
Patients with active major bleeding, patients with (or a history of) heparin-induced thrombocytopenia, or patients with known sensitivity to heparin, tinzaparin sodium injection (or any of its constituents) or pork products should not be treated with Innohep(R).
