ticarcillin /ti·car·cil·lin/ (ti″kahr-sil´in) a semisynthetic broad-spectrum penicillin effective against both gram-negative and gram-positive organisms; used as the disodium salt.
ticarcillin [tik′ärsil′in] an extended spectrum penicillin antibiotic. indications It is prescribed in the treatment of bacterial septicemia, as well as skin, soft tissue, and respiratory infections caused by both gram-negative and gram-positive organisms, including some strains of Pseudomonas. contraindication A history of allergic reaction to any of the penicillins prohibits its use. adverse effects Among the most serious adverse effects are anaphylactic reactions, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, neutropenia, eosinophilia, vein irritation, and phlebitis. ticarcillin [ti″kahr-sil´in] a semisynthetic broad-spectrum penicillinantibiotic effective against both gram-negative and gram-positive organisms; administered orally as the disodium salt.
