Etymology: AS, thuma + L, signum
the flexing of the terminal phalanx of the thumb against the flexed index finger, as in holding a piece of paper. It is observed in patients who are unable to adduct the thumb because of an ulnar lesion. Also called Froment's sign, newspaper sign, signe de journal.

Thumb Sign
A finding in patients with Marfan syndrome and other inherited connective tissue disorders. The thumb sign is positive if the distal phalanx of the thumb can be opposed beyond the ulnar border of the palm

The thumb sign (positive when the thumb protrudes beyond the confines of the clenched fist) and the wrist sign (positive when the thumb and fifth finger overlap when the opposite wrist is grasped proximal to the styloid process of the radius) were also evaluated.
