fixer,
a chemical used in processing photographic or x-ray film. Applied after the developing phase, it neutralizes any developer remaining on the film, removes undeveloped silver halides, and hardens the emulsion.

fixer [fik´ser]
the chemical used to remove unexposed, underdeveloped silver compounds and to harden gelatin or emulsion on film.

n the chemicals used in the final step of film processing that remove the unaffected silver halide particles from the developed film.

fixer
in the processing of a radiological film the developed image is put into fixer (sodium or ammonium thiosulfate) to dissolve the unexposed silver halide and to harden the film.

fixer fog
careless or inefficient handling of the fixer bath will seriously compromise the clarity of the film being taken by creating a fog effect.
