[-hīdroz′əlēn]
an adrenergic vasoconstrictor.
indications It is prescribed for the treatment of nasal and nasopharyngeal congestion and as an ophthalmic vasoconstrictor.
contraindications Glaucoma or known hypersensitivity to this drug or to other vasoconstrictors prohibits its use. It is used with caution in patients who have cardiovascular disease.
adverse effects Among the more serious adverse effects are irritation to mucosa, rebound nasal congestion, and effects associated with systemic absorption, including sedation, alterations in cardiovascular function, and hypertension.
