temporoparietalis
[tem′pərōpərī′ətal′is] Etymology: L, temporalis + paries, wall one of a pair of broad, thin muscles of the scalp, which are divided into three parts that fan out over the temporal fascia and insert into the galea aponeurotica. The three parts include an anterior temporal part; a superior parietal part; and, in between, a triangular part. On both sides it acts in combination with the occipitofrontalis to wrinkle the forehead, widen the eyes, and raise the ears. It is innervated by branches of the facial nerve. Compare occipitofrontalis. Want to thank TFD for its existence? Tell a friend about us, add a link to this page, add the site to iGoogle, or visit the webmaster's page for free fun content. |
