This section of the ADA has lead to Telecommunication Relay Services, which allows people who are disabled to place calls to standard telephones.
In 2004, AOL launched AIM Relay Services to allow users to connect with telecommunication relay services right from their AIM Buddy Lists on their desktops or their cell phones.
The AIM Relay Service builds upon the popularity of the AOL(R) Instant Messenger(TM) (AIM(R)) service within the deaf, hard of hearing and speech-disabled communities by allowing AOL members and AIM users to connect to telecommunication relay services to place relay telephone calls directly from their AOL or AIM Buddy List(R) feature.
