technetium-99m
(redirected from Tc99m)

Also found in: Wikipedia 0.01 sec.
technetium-99m,
the radionuclide most commonly used to image the body in nuclear medicine scans. It is preferred because of its short half-life and because the emitted photon has an appropriate energy for normal imaging techniques. The "m" indicates that this radionuclide is metastable. It is generated on site from a molybdenum source.

technetium
a chemical element, atomic number 43, atomic weight 99, symbol Tc. See Table 6.

technetium-99m
the most frequently used radioisotope in nuclear medicine, a gamma emitter having a half-life of 6.04 hours and a primary photon energy of 140 keV; symbol 99mTc.
99m
Tc sulfur coated scintiscan see scintiscan.

recommend evaluation for bone metastases with Tc99m MDP bone scan or plain skeletal radiographs, and measuring the serum levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH) and PTH-related peptide, as well as the levels of 25-(OH) vitamin D and 1,25-(OH) vitamin D as this will point to the common causes for hypercalcaemia of malignancy and help to rule out non-malignant causes of hypercalcaemia.
Another form of stress test involves administering a radioactive isotope (often Technetium Tc99m Sestamibi) and is called a nuclear stress test.
Tc99m HMDP scintigraphy showed abnormal uptake only in the left soleus muscle.
