tautomer /tau·to·mer/ (taw´to-mer) a chemical compound exhibiting, or capable of exhibiting, tautomerism.

structural isomers that differ only in the position of a hydrogen atom or proton. Because tautomers can be rapidly interconverted by proton transfer in aqueous solutions, they are usually in equilibrium with one another. Keto and enol isomers are common examples of tautomers.
