Stargardt's disease [stahr´gahrts]
a congenital form of macular degeneration that first appears between the ages of 6 and 20 and is marked by rapid loss of visual acuity with a cystlike macular lesion that in the early stages resembles egg yolk. Called also Stargardt's macular degeneration.
Stargardt's disease A hereditary condition characterized by progressive retinal degeneration, due to a defect on chromosome 1; SD is similar to age-related macular degeneration.
