tapotement /ta·pote·ment/ (tah-pōt-maw´) [Fr.] a tapping or percussing movement in massage.
tapotement [täpôtmäN′] Etymology: Fr, tapoter, to pat a type of massage in which the body is tapped in a rhythmic manner with the tips of the fingers or the sides of the hands, using short, rapid, repetitive movements. The procedure is often used on the chest wall of patients with bronchitis to help loosen the mucus in the air passages. See also massage. tapotement (ta·pōˑ·t n massage technique that invigorates tissue by quickly and percussively tapping, cupping, hacking, slapping, or beating. Used most often during maintenance and relaxation massage. tapotement a technique used in massage therapy in which gentle percussion is used to stimulate sensory nerves and vasodilate capillaries.
