one of the New World monkeys in the family Callithricidae. Called also Mystax spp. Similar to marmosets.

[ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] Teie, a composer and cellist, used traits from calls that tamarins made in response to both stressful and calming situations to compose cello and voice music designed especially for monkeys.
In the study, the music was inspired by sounds the tamarins make to convey two opposite emotions: threats and/or fear, and affiliation, a friendly, safe and happy condition.
Emperor tamarins Lara and Lucy were orphaned just three weeks after they were born at Denver Zoo.
