an intensely itchy dermatitis of horses caused by hypersensitivity to the bites of Culicoides spp. The lesions are worst in the summer months and most evident along the middle of the back. The skin is thickened and the hair is missing. Called also Queensland itch. See equine allergic dermatitis.
