Scientists found that while kids use their prefrontal cortexes to do math, adults use a part of their brains called the superior temporal gyrus.
Also, they detected significant responses to words in other parts of the reading network, including the anterior middle temporal gyrus, the left posterior middle temporal gyrus, the angular and supramarginal gyri, and the left superior temporal gyrus.
Scientists have shown that the left superior temporal gyrus may help connect the sounds of speech to written letters.
