n.
A group of preganglionic parasympathetic motor neurons situated near the inferior salivary nucleus and governing secretion of the lacrimal, sublingual, and submaxillary glands by way of the facial nerve and the sphenopalatine and submandibular ganglia.

The sensory root (nervus intermedius) consists of central processes of neurons located in the geniculate ganglion and axons of parasympathetic neurons from the superior salivatory nucleus.
The innervation of the submandibular gland is similar to that of the parotid gland; the difference involves preganglionic parasympathetic fibers that originate in the superior salivatory nucleus and travel along the facial nerve and the chorda tympani to the submandibular ganglion.
