In the reports of research participants after a non-lethal suicidal act, we were able to identify short-term suicide actions, mid-term suicide projects, and a long-term suicide career, all of which the participants constructed as goal-directed processes (Valach, Michel, Young, & Dey, 2002).
The link between her life-related action and her suicide career was achieved in a bottom-up manner, while the suicide itself proceeded in a goal-directed way.
We would have to make sure that neither the goals of the suicide career nor the goals of the suicide project or of the suicide action are eminent.
