Streptomyces /Strep·to·my·ces/ (strep″to-mi´sēz) a genus of bacteria (order Actinomycetales), usually soil forms, but occasionally parasitic on plants and animals, and notable as the source of various antibiotics, e.g., the tetracyclines. S. somalien´sis is a cause of mycetoma.

streptokinase-streptodornase,
n.pl two enzymes derived from a strain of
S. hemolyticus. It is prescribed for debridement of purulent exudates, clotted blood, radiation necrosis, or fibrinous deposits resulting from trauma or infection.

n a genus of gram-positive, funguslike bacteria belonging to the order actinomycetales. Several antibiotics, such as tetracyclines and aminoglycosides, are produced from them.

Notable as the source of various antibiotics, e.g. the tetracyclines, erythromycin (S. erythreus), lincomycin (S. lincolnensis), tylosin (S. fradiae), rifampin (S. mediterranei), amphotericin B (S. nodosus) and monensin (S. cinnamonensis).
