Excessive discharge of fat in the feces, as occurring in pancreatic disease and in malabsorption syndromes.

An excessive amount of fat in the stool.

Etymology: Gk, stear, fat, rhoia, flow
greater than normal amounts of fat in the feces, characterized by frothy foul-smelling fecal matter that floats, as in celiac disease, some malabsorption syndromes, and any condition in which fats are poorly absorbed by the small intestine.

steatorrhea
excess fat in the feces due to a malabsorption syndrome caused by disease of the intestinal mucosa or pancreatic enzyme deficiency. The feces are bulky, greasy, malodorous and pale in color.
