Ornithogalum

a genus of African plants in the family Liliaceae; contain an unidentified toxin (possibly cardiac glycosides) which causes dyspnea due to pulmonary edema, diarrhea, dysentery, abdominal pain; O. umbellatum contains the alkaloid lycorine; includes O. angustifolium (snowdrop), O. caudatum (pregnant onion), O. ceresianum, O. conicum subsp. conicum (bulrush), O. gilgianum, O. hermanii, O. lacteum (bulrush), O. longibracteum, O. ornithogaloides, O. prasinum, O. sundersiae, O. tenellum, O. thyrsoides, O. umbellatum (daffodil), O. virens, O. zeyheri. Most of these plants are referred to as 'chincherinchee'.
