athletic trainer,
an allied health professional who, with the consultation and supervision of attending physicians, is an integral part of the health care system associated with sports. Through both academic preparation and practical experience, the athletic trainer provides a variety of services, including injury prevention and recognition and immediate care, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic trauma.
