the process of development of spermatozoa, consisting of two stages. In the first stage, spermatogonia become spermatocytes, which develop into spermatids. In the second stage, called spermiogenesis, the spermatids become spermatozoa. Also called spermatocytogenesis, spermiogenesis. spermatogenic, spermatogenous, adj.
