skier's tear
Orthopedics Rupture of a skier's ulnar collateral ligament–UCL, seen when a thumb gets caught on the ski pole strap when falling, which prevents pulling the hand away from the pole; when the skier falls, the pole, especially poles with a saber-type grip, is pushed away from the palm, carrying the thumb with it, causing the UCL to snap. See Skiing.
