Sims [simz]
James Marion (1813–1883). American surgeon and pioneer in gynecology. Born in South Carolina and graduated from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, he is known chiefly for the semiprone position and the curved speculum that are named after him, and that contributed to his success in operating for vesicovaginal fistula. He established the State Hospital for Women in New York, and was president of the American Medical Association and honorary president of the International Medical Congress.
