inflammation of one or more of the salivary glands. Also called sialoadenitis.

sialadenitis (sī´lad´nī´tis),
n inflammation of the salivary glands, especially the major glands, because of such trauma as surgery or infection. Noted in mumps due to viral infection.

Salivary gland inflammation. ENT An infection of the salivary glands caused by viruses–eg, mumps–mumps parotiditis, or bacteria–linked to obstruction–as in salivary duct stones or to poor oral hygiene. Cf Myoepithelial sialadenitis.
