genus in the grass family Poaceae. Several cultivars are used commercially as pasture grasses; some have a high oxalate content. Acute intoxication in cattle causes hyocalcemia and nephrosis subsequently. Long-term ingestion in horses causes osteodystrophia. Includes S. glauca, S. incrassata (S. porphyrantha), S. sphacelata (S. anceps, S. trinervia).

Setaria2 lutescens
is a grass with bristly seedheads and causes a traumatic stomatitis in cattle and horses. The lesions contain obvious plant fibers. Called also yellow bristle grass.
