Sesbania plant genus in the legume family Fabaceae. Annual herbaceous plants with a confused terminology but similar in their toxicity. Contain galactomannan, a toxic gum which causes diarrhea. Includes S. cannabina, S. drummondii (S. cavanillesi), S. longifolia, S. punicea (red or purple sesbania), S. vesicaria (S. platycarpa). Called also Glottidium spp., Daubentonia spp., rattlepod, bagpod, coffee bean, rattlebox, rattlebrush, poison bean, and many others. How to thank TFD for its existence?
