transthyretin /trans·thy·re·tin/ (-thi-ret´in) an α-globulin secreted by the liver that transports retinol-binding protein and thyroxine in the blood. Numerous mutations have been associated with the ATTR form of familial amyloidosis. transthyretin Prealbumin A 55 kD homotetrameric protein that binds thyroxine and retinol; transthyretin is ↓ in malnutrition and in acute and chronic inflammation, and thus is considered a 'negative acute phase protein',
