Pearson correlation analyses were conducted to examine the second hypothesis, namely that perfectionism, self loathing and anger would be associated with drive for thinness among both obese and non-obese females, and the hypothesis was partially supported.
Additional Pearson correlation analyses were conducted to test the hypothesis that perfectionism would be associated with self loathing for both weight groups.
The first hypothesis, that the obese group would report higher drive for thinness and self loathing than non-obese women, was supported.
As predicted by the second hypothesis, self loathing was associated with drive for thinness among both obese and non-obese students, and supports the possibility that the self loathing sub-scale may be a useful instrument in predicting risk of disordered eating among women regardless of weight category (Edman & Yates, 2004; Edman, Yates, Aruguete, & DeBord, 2005).
