scorpion eight-legged, venomous arthropod of varying sizes but all possessing massive claws at the head and a flexible, segmented tail, which is carried in a characteristic forward curve over the back and has a sting in it. The neurotoxin produced causes severe pain and numbing at the site but there is not usually sufficient to cause paralysis of a human.
