lymphoepithelioma /lym·pho·epi·the·li·o·ma/ (lim″fo-ep″ĭ-thēl″e-o´mah) a pleomorphic, poorly differentiated carcinoma arising from modified epithelium overlying lymphoid tissue of the nasopharynx.

A poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma involving lymphoid tissue in the region of the tonsils and the nasopharynx.

lymphoepithelioma

Etymology: L, lympha + Gk, epi, above, thele, nipple, oma, tumor
a poorly differentiated neoplasm developing from the epithelium overlying lymphoid tissue in the nasopharynx. It occurs most frequently in young people of Asian origin. Also called lymphoepithelial carcinoma.

lymphoepithelioma (lim´fōep´i-thē´lēō´m),
n a malignant neoplasm arising from the epithelium and lymphoid tissue of the nasopharynx and characterized by cells of both tissues; may occur in the palate.
