sawfly member of the insect family Pergidae. Includes Arge pullata (Denmark), Lophyrotoma interrupta (Australia), Perreyea lepida (South America). The larvae of these leaf-eating insects collect in piles under the trees they parasitize; cattle eat them avidly and develop acute hepatitis due to the ingestion of lophyrotomin in the larvae. |
