The most common media for the isolation of dermatophytes are Dermatophyte Test Medium (DTM) and Sabouraud glucose agar (SDA) or potato-flakes agar, supplemented with chloramphenicol and cycloheximide to inhibit bacterial and saprophytic fungal growth.
This species is considered an ectomycorrhizal fungus in Japan although the species of genus Lyophylum Karsten have been considered saprophytic fungi in Europe.
