SON

A gene on chromosome 21q22.11 that encodes an RNA-binding protein which acts as a mRNA splicing cofactor by promoting efficient splicing of cell cycle and DNA-repair transcripts (e.g., TUBG1, KATNB1, TUBGCP2, AURKB, PCNT, AKT1, RAD23A and FANCG), which possess weak splice sites. SON also binds to DNA and may indirectly repress hepatitis-B virus (HBV) core promoter activity, as well as transcription of HBV genes and production of HBV virions.
