S100A13

A gene on chromosome 1q21 that encodes a member of the S100 family of proteins, which contain 2 EF-hand calcium-binding motifs and as a group regulate cell cycle progression and differentiation and other cellular processes. The S100A13-encoded protein plays a role in the export of proteins that lack a signal peptide, which are secreted by an alternative pathway. It is widely expressed in various tissues with high expression in thyroid gland; it is co-expressed with other family members in the nucleus and in stress fibres, suggesting a role in signal transduction.
