rutherford /ruth·er·ford/ (ruth´er-ford) a unit of radioactive disintegration, representing one million disintegrations per second.
Ruth·er·ford (rr-frd, rth-), Ernest First Baron Rutherford of Nelson. 1871-1937.
New Zealand-born British physicist who classified radiation into alpha, beta, and gamma types and discovered the atomic nucleus. He won the 1908 Nobel Prize in chemistry.

a unit of radioactive disintegration, representing one million disintegrations per second. Called also Rd. The term is no longer used having been replaced by curie which is also now superseded by becquerel.
