Patient discussion about Rubbing salt.

Q. What are good items to replace salt with for cooking? My Dad has highblood pressure and we'd like to start using products that have no salt/sodium to add to cooking for adding taste. Like Mrs. Dash

A. Don't really deal with these issues myself, but I found a website with tips, recipes, list of stores etc. about salt-free food (http://www.lowsodiumcooking.com/free/Sources.htm(.

Also, in Amazon there're several options also (http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&rh=n%3A3601141%2Cp_n_feature_browse-bin%3A114310011&page=1).

Q. If diabetes has to do with sugar in the blood why does diabetic patients have to watch their salt consumption?

A. very good question :) and a good answer too:)
if you have Diabetes type 2 that means you have a risk factor for heart attacks. it also means you probably have high blood pressure, so it's in your best interest to watch your sult consumption even more then others.

Q. How can salt bring heart attack? My dad had a stroke last month. This was his first stroke and it made me frightened. My mother was always very serious for his salt intake due to his high blood pressure. She blames excess salt intake for my dad’s stroke and heart attack. I want to know why salt is considered bad for health. How can salt bring heart attack?

A. It is the first and foremost advice being provided to patients with heart ailment and hypertension to reduce on salt intake. It is found that salt intake increases the retention of fluid in blood vessels which increases the blood volume. With this increased volume of the blood the heart takes much effort to pump the blood to the body, which increases the blood pressure. This can damage the heart which can lead to heart attack. Less or adequate salt intake lowers the risk of high blood pressure.
