Rouleaux
The stacking up of red blood cells, caused by extra or abnormal proteins in the blood that decrease the normal distance red cells maintain between each other.

rouleaux Hematology Stacks of RBCs in groups of 4–10 cells, likened to stacked coins; artifactual rouleaux occur in the thick area of any blood smear; true rouleaux formation occurs with ↑ protein, fibrinogen and globulins, ↑ ESR due to dextran and monoclonal gammopathies–myeloma, Waldenström's disease, cryoglobulinemia, sarcoidosis, cirrhosis.
