In the 19th century, terriers that were very similar to the Westies were known as Roseneath terriers in honor of Duke of Argyll''s interest and patronage of this breed.
A IN fact, the breed has had two other names the Roseneath terrier (after the Duke of Argyll's estate in Dunbartonshire) and the Poltalloch terrier (after the area in Argyll where they are thought to have originated).
