RhoGAM,
trademark for an immune globulin (RhO [D] immune globulin).

RhoGAM [ro´gam]
trademark for a preparation of Rh0 (D antigen) immune globulin. The gamma globulin is derived from the plasma of women previously immunized to the Rh0 (D) antigen and is administered after each Rh-incompatible pregnancy. The gamma globulin prevents the formation of antibodies after delivery or abortion. See also rh factor.

Karon: Kernicterus has been around for centuries, though interest in this waned significantly in the 1970s and 1980s after the routine introduction of RhoGAM to prevent alloimmunization of Rh-negative mothers.
If you are Rh- you will usually receive a medication called rhogam after medical procedures such as amniocentesis, or if you have vaginal bleeding.
You and I discussed the importance of these tests and the need for Rhogam.
