rhesus monkey
a gray, longhaired monkey with red ischial callosities. They are very agile, strong and curious. They learn easily and are used extensively in research work. Called also Macaca mulatta.

Canto, 27 (left),and Owen, 29, are part of a 20-year study of rhesus monkeys to find out whether lower-calorie diet will slow aging and extend life spans.
The researchers identified the unique area, called the anterior supramarginal gyrus (aSMG), through experiments in which 47 people and five rhesus monkeys watched videos of simple tools being used while their brains were scanned with fMRI.
A 20-year study finds that rhesus monkeys fed a nutritious but low-calorie diet have fewer age-related diseases than counterparts on a normal diet, researchers report July 10 in Science.
