retroversion /ret·ro·ver·sion/ (-ver´zhun) the tipping backward of an entire organ or part.
retroversion [-vur′zhən] Etymology: L, retro + vertere, to turn 1 a common condition in which an organ is tipped backward, usually without flexion or other distortion. The uterus may be retroverted in as many as one fourth of normal women. Uterine retroversion is measured as first-, second-, or third-degree, depending on the angle of tilt with respect to the vagina. Compare anteversion. See also anteflexion, retroflexion. 2 also called retrusion. an abnormal condition in which the teeth or other maxillary and mandibular structures are posterior to their normal positions. retrovert, v. retroversion, n a condition in which an organ or bodily structure is turned backward, as with the uterus. Typically no indication of flexion or another kind of distortion. retroversion (ret´rōvur´zh n a condition in which teeth or other maxillary and mandibular structures are located posterior to the normal or generally accepted standard. retroversion a turning backwards; as in surgically created deviation of the penis in the creation of a teaser bull.
