Etymology: L, retractare, to draw back; ME, neb a nipple drawn inward, resulting from cancer or adhesions below the skin surface or a natural condition present at birth. Retracted Nipple A nipple pulled inward by an underlying tumour or inflammation which, in the case of breast CA, may be accompanied by a peau d’orange appearance of the surrounding skin. Retracted nipples may also be red, ulcerated, have a scaly surface and histologically demonstrate Paget’s disease of the breast
