chief resident

a senior resident physician who acts temporarily as the clinical and administrative director of the house staff in a department of the hospital. The period of duty varies, depending on the size of the department, the length of the residency, and the number of house staff members.

chief resident

A house officer who participates in an additional year of residency in order to gain experience in the administration and education of other health care professionals during their training.
