calicivirus /ca·li·ci·vi·rus/ a member of the family Caliciviridae. Calicivirus /Ca·li·ci·vi·rus/ (kah-lis´ĭ-vi″rus) caliciviruses; a genus of the family Caliciviridae that includes Norwalk virus and other viruses causing acute self-limited gastroenteritis in humans.
Calicivirus A member of the Caliciviridae family of viruses that includes noroviruses. Mentioned in: Noroviruses Calicivirus a genus in the family caliciviridae. calicivirus a virus in the genus Calicivirus. canine calicivirus has been isolated from the feces of dogs with diarrhea; the significance is unknown. feline calicivirus infection a common cause of upper respiratory disease and ulcerative glossitis in cats. Affected cats show varying degrees of ocular and nasal discharge, coughing and sneezing. Pneumonia sometimes occurs, mainly in young or debilitated cats. Ulceration of the tongue and palate is a regular feature of the disease, but lips, nares and skin are also sometimes involved. Lameness, diarrhea and seizures have also rarely been associated with calicivirus infection. Many recovered cats remain carriers of the virus, shedding infectious organisms from the pharynx. Most of these are asymptomatic, but some may have chronic oral lesions. Feline calicivirus has also been associated with feline urological syndrome, but its role in that disorder remains unclear.
