A gene on chromosome 1q25.3 that encodes an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase that has a RING finger motif. RNF2 is a polycomb group protein that forms multimeric complexes, which play a key role in repressing transcription of various genes in anterior-posterior axis specification, early embryonic development and cell proliferation.
