Any diet based on on guidelines which schematically represents foods that can be consumed ad lib—at the base of the pyramid—and those which should generally be avoided—at the peak. See Mediterranean pyramid

Nutrition A diet based on the USDA's food pyramid, promulgated  as a guideline for the proportions of food groups to be eaten/day; carbohydrates are at the base of the pyramid; at the peak are the 'discouraged' foods–to be eaten sparingly–eg, fats, oils, refined sugars.
