punctum /punc·tum/ (pungk´tum) pl. punc´ta [L.] a point or small spot. punctum cae´cum blind spot. punctum lacrima´le lacrimal point. punctum prox´imum near point. punctum remo´tum far point.
punctum lacrimale [lak′rimā′lē] pl. puncta lacrimalia Etymology: L, punctum, prick, lacrima, tear a minute circular aperture in the medial opening into the nasolacrimal sac. The puncta drain the tears that travel from the lacrimal glands through the lacrimal ducts to the conjunctiva. Puncta clogged with mucus or dirt cause irritation and discomfort. lacrimal punctum A small, round or oval, opening of the lacrimal canaliculus (duct) on the margin of each eyelid near the inner canthus and situated in the middle of a small elevation the lacrimal papilla.
